Sage Collegiate Public Charter School celebrates new building with community

Sage Collegiate Public Charter School has announced the opening of its permanent facility at a grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 4:30 p.m. The K-8 school, which opened in August with K-5, has moved into a fully renovated Elks Lodge in central Las Vegas and will share its space with the community.

“There is a great need for public charter schools in Las Vegas. With most charter schools being located around the perimeter of the city, Sage Collegiate gives students in the central Las Vegas community access to more options for education,” said Jennifer Braster, board chair of Sage Collegiate.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 4100 W Charleston Blvd. Speakers includes chair Braster, managing partner and co-founder at Naylor & Braster; City of Las Vegas Ward 1 councilman Brian Knudsen, who represents the school’s community; Jana Wilcox Lavin, CEO of Opportunity 180, a school partner; and Marisa Quintanar, vice president of Red Hook Capital, the facility development partner of Sage Collegiate. A proud member of the Vegas Chamber of Commerce, Sage Collegiate’s grand opening will be hosted and facilitated by the Chamber. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch the ceremonial ribbon-cutting to officially open the new building, tour the facility and enjoy refreshments with Sage Collegiate board and staff members.

“We’re excited to share our space with the community, partners and families,” said Sandra Kinne, lead founder and executive director. “We have been intentional in creating a space that is student- centered, community-partnered and allows us to do the work to fulfill our mission.”

Sage Collegiate is in its first school year after welcoming students in August. The charter school currently has more than 200 students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Sage Collegiate has a slow growth model and will add another kindergarten and a 6th grade class in the 2023-24 school year. Registration for the school’s lottery is open. At capacity, Sage Collegiate will have 800 students in kindergarten through 8th grade.

“This building represents new opportunities for so many of our current and future students who need improved educational opportunities,” Braster said. “I’m proud to work with such a dedicated board and passionate faculty that is determined to bring better learning experiences to our incredibly deserving students.”

Work for a second building on its campus has already begun and will open by the school’s fourth year in 2025.
